I had quite a few responses from people interested in doing a cleanse, so I thought I would post it here. Now, this is my version of a mild cleanse. You can purchase cleansing kits that are great, but some are very expensive and many people that I talk with are unable to complete the cleanses because they become very ill. That is why I developed this gentle cleanse. After you finish this program, you may want to consider doing a stronger cleanse.

This cleanse lasts for 2 weeks.
Week 1
-Abstain from meat (except fish) and eliminate all forms of yeast. This includes baking yeast, baking powder, soda, and grains that have been allowed to soak for over 18 hours. You may continue to eat grains, just make sure they do not begin the fermentation process. Brown rice, millet, and oats are good.
-Increase your intake of vegetables and fruits. Cleansing soup recipes are available in my Kitchen Apothecary e-book and they are very good. These soups can make up the bulk of your meals during the cleanse. However, raw foods are your top choice. Large green salads are wonderful. I encourage citrus fruits before noon. Fruits should be consumed alone and not after any meals. It is ideal to consume fruit in the morning hours. The reason is that fruit digests easily and quicker than any other food. It can be very upsetting to the digestive system to follow up a meal with raw fruit.
-Eat lots of seeds and nuts. Pumpkin seeds are excellent! Raw pumpkin, sunflower seeds, and black walnuts are wonderful antiparasitics and antifungals. Snack on these throughout your cleanse.
-Drink several glasses of pure water with the addition of fresh squeezed lemon juice each day. You need this water to flush out your body. Don't skimp on the water!
-Drink 1-2 quarts of herbal tea every single day of this cleanse. Your tea should contain pau d'arco, oregano, nettle, dandelion, burdock root and parsley. You can add other herbs, too. Red clover, alfalfa, oats, and red raspberry are full of vitamins and minerals and are always excellent to add to any tea blend. Pau d'arco and oregano are anti-fungals and are essential ingredients.
-Psyllium husk supplements are very important. Most people find the capsules easiest to take, but powder is available.
-Farmstead eggs are fine to eat if you need the animal protein. I need this, myself. Please, do not consume grocery store eggs unless they are all you can get and they are organic and free-range!
-Drink your kefir and eat homemade yogurt! You can also take additional probiotic supplements at this time. You want to really pump up the good bacteria in your system!
-If you have access to a juicer, juice it! Make smoothies in the blender, too.

Week 2
-Continue on with everything. The only difference is that you can now add some chicken or turkey to your diet. Our family only consumes meat from sources that we are familiar with. We eat venison, farm raised chickens, and grass-fed beef from a neighbor. We also only eat meat a few times per week, and less in the summer. Meat is difficult to digest and can ruin a cleanse. If you feel that you must add meat back during the 2nd week, do so sparingly. If you can muster one more vegetarian week, go for it! You'll feel better for it. Meat based broths are fine.

If you feel up to it, add another week. A 30 day cleanse is the goal, but start slow if you must.
Children can benefit from modified cleanses. Use your common sense and don't expect them to live on salads for 2 weeks. This version is certainly gentle enough for most children. You may not get them to drink the tea, but the water and lemon should be encouraged. Did I mention that you should NOT be drinking any sugary drinks at this time? And you MUST abstain from processed foods and refined sugars! If I forgot to cover something, I'll add another post later. Post your questions for me.
