Fresh Laundry Tips!

July 28, 2007

Dear Friends,

We all have chores that we dread doing, don't we? For me,
one of those unavoidable, yet dreaded chores, is laundry.
With five children and a husband who welds in a dirty
manufacturing plant for a living, I have my share of dirty
laundry. Some days, it seems that the mountain of clothes
looms much to large for me.

I have managed to make the chore somewhat more enjoyable
for myself. You see, I love to create new things and I
love to be outdoors. So, in order to make laundry a bit
more fun, I took two things that I enjoy doing and
incorporated them into this boring chore.

For starters, I make my own laundry cleaners. Yes, this is
enjoyable to me and gives me a great sense of satisfaction.
It saves me money, too! You really only need a good,
strong lye soap, borax, and washing soda. A variety of
some basic essential oils will add a bit of fragrance and
additional cleaning power, too. Stain removers,
treatments, and natural brighteners can be made easily in
your kitchen, as well!

The other thing that has made laundry a pleasant experience
for me, is hanging it on the clothesline! Nothing is quite
as pleasing as being outdoors on a sunny, breezy day
hanging crisp, clean, white bed sheets on the line. I
enjoy watching the children's little shirts and dresses
flapping in the breeze... and nothing beats the smell of
sunshine on clean clothes!

I have added a page on the web site dedicated to laundry
and cleaning tips. Make sure you check it out! We also
now offer Amish lye soap crumbles for sale. This lye soap
is simple and pure and will make the perfect soap base for
all of your laundry detergent creations!

Before I go, here is a simple recipe for a bleach
substitute... Add on cup of hydrogen peroxide and one cup
of lemon juice to 10 cups of rain water. Shake well and
store in a one gallon plastic jug. Add 2 cups of this to
your large laundry load.

Blessings,
Jennifer Ferris
