Kefir

September 6, 2007

Dear Friends,

You know by now that I love kefir. I really think it is a
"must-have" for every family who is trying to improve their
health. It is so easy to make and so easy to use.

I know that many of you probably use probiotics in capsule
or chewable tablet form. Now, many probiotic brands are
very good, and I am not bashing them. However, when you
choose to take your probiotics this way, you can never be
100% sure just how many live bacteria are actually making
it into your intestinal tract...which is where you want
them. Do you keep your probiotic capsules refrigerated at
all times? Did you know that you are supposed to? Many
people do not know this information and are taking capsules
that contain dead bacteria. Many of the probiotics sold in
health food stores and drug stores are void of any healthy,
live bacteria by the time you purchase them. You just
don't know what you are getting.

I used to purchase probiotics in chewable tablet form for
my children. I personally took the capsules. I even kept
them all refrigerated. They were "good" brands. I can
tell you that I never experienced the results with the
probiotic pills that I have experienced with live kefir.

Kefir is a live, whole food! You make it fresh in your own
home and you can tell when it is alive and full of good
bacteria and when you need to make a fresh batch. No guess
work is involved. When you drink kefir on a daily basis,
you are constantly adding beneficial bacteria to your
digestive tract and encouraging a healthy environment
inside your body.

You can add kefir to a multitude of foods, too. It is
never boring! Add it to your pancake mix, scrambled eggs,
or french toast batter. Make delicious smoothies! Add it
to cold soups or pour it over the top of your oatmeal. Eat
it with homemade granola! You are limited only by your
imagination. I have already told you how simple it is to
make a healthy cream cheese in the last newsletter.

When I am sick, I like to mix kefir tonics with cinnamon
and raw honey. When my children are ill, I double up on
the amount of kefir they are consuming. Frankly, they get
sick much less often since we have introduced kefir and raw
milk into our diets.

I am asked quite often what to do if you don't have access
to raw milk. Well, the answer is to add kefir grains to
your pasteurized milk. The kefir grains will add many
beneficial bacteria back into the milk and turn it into a
far superior product. It won't be as good for you as raw
milk dairy, but it is so much better for you than drinking
plain, store-bought, pasteurized milk. If you can buy
organic milk to culture, all the better. If not, do what
you can do now. You have taken at least one step up the
ladder of good health. If you only have access to grocery
store milk, you should also consider cutting back on your
consumption. A gallon of kefir consumed, rather than three
gallons of milk per week, would be a smart move. By the
way, I never recommend soy products. Avoid soy milk.

Last, by certainly not least, consuming kefir is far less
expensive than purchasing expensive probiotic pills! Once
you purchase some live grains, you have a lifetime supply!
They grow and multiply. You can share them with friends
and family, too! I have already had one of my dear
customers share her extra grains with her sister! They
don't take long to grow.

So, what are you waiting for? Order your kefir grains

One more thing...if you live in the Northern
Indiana/Southern Michigan area and would like to have me
come and share with your women's group, send me an email.
I have done a few "herb/nutrition classes" and have enjoyed
it very much. I would certainly be interested in doing
more.

Blessings,
