Boost Your Immune System!

September 20, 2007

Dear Friends,

With the frequent changes in temperature and weather
conditions, spring and autumn are often the times of the
year when cold and flu bugs attack. Have you noticed that
you often wake up with a scratchy throat on those mornings
when the temperature has fallen quite drastically? You
went to bed wearing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and woke
up looking frantically for socks, sweatpants and a hooded
sweatshirt! Along with the warm clothes, you are also
sporting a runny nose and a cough. I don't care what the
medical professionals say, the fluctuations in temperature
have an effect on our health. Experience speaks for itself
here.

So, what should you be doing? Well, start by throwing a
handful or two of some healing herbs into a big pot of
immune boosting soup. One of my favorite soups for this
time of year is Garlic and Tomato. The tomatoes are still
prolific in the garden for most of us. Tomatoes, peppers,
onion, and lots of garlic make this soup an excellent
choice. Simmer them on the stove or use a crock pot. You
can add the veggies to about 4 cups of chicken broth or
vegetable stock. Season it well with sea salt and lots of
herbs. Thyme is fantastic. It is a natural antibiotic,
too! Go heavy on the basil and oregano, as well. You can
add brown rice or millet to this soup to hearty it up a
bit.

What else can you do to pump up your immune system? I
think that probiotics are essential and the best probiotic,
in my opinion, comes in the form of real, live food, not a
capsule or chewable tablet. Kefir is a super probiotic and
it is so easy to make. I have talked about kefir so many
times that you are all probably sick of hearing about it!
I just can't help myself. It is so ridiculous to spend a
fortune on expensive probiotics when you can make a quart
of kefir every day for the cost of your milk. You buy the
live grains one time and you have a lifetime supply. The
beneficial bacteria in kefir is much higher than yoghurt,
although yoghurt is good, too. Kombucha tea is another
live probiotic.

My last bit of advice is to get yourself some herbs and
start making your own herbal tinctures. Flu Fighter Blend
is a fantastic blend of herbs that contains echinacea,
elderberries, elder flower, and yarrow. It is an immune
system booster and will assist your body in fighting off
viruses and bacteria. You should always remember to give
your body an occasional break from echinacea. It works
better if not taken for more than a few weeks at a time.
During the months we use it, we take it for two weeks and
take a week off.

Also, I want to apologize to anyone who had to wait a bit
longer than usual for your order to arrive during the past
week. We are running a bit low on herbs and had to wait
for a shipment to come in. You might notice that several
blends are currently out of stock. We hope to have them
all back in within a few weeks. My sincere apologies! Flu
Fighter is back in stock and ready to be shipped, for
anyone interested!

Blessings,
